In an 1816 picture album entitled Santai Gafu (i.e., Picture Album of Three Styles of Drawing) Hokusai drew the same subject using different styles. He called them formal, running and cursive after three styles of Japanese writing. Eighteen of the book’s pages included drawings of flowers or birds. These pages are shown in this gallery.
